Dr Allison Hubel

Dr Allison Hubel is professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Minnesota, and is director of the Biopreservation Core Resource (BioCoR), a resource on biopreservation. Dr Hubel has studied both basic science and translational issues behind cell and tissue preservation (liquid storage and cryopreservation). Her research focuses on development of protocols for cell and tissue preservation, development of microfluidic technology to improve preservation, and understanding molecular mechanisms of damage. She has also been active in the development of education/training in the field of preservation and is co-PI on an NHLBI-training grant for cell therapy workforce development. Dr Hubel has published many scientific articles on preservation and she is the author of, ‘Preservation of Cells: a Practical Manual’ published in 2018. She is a former deputy editor of Biopreservation and Biobanking, the official journal of the International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories (ISBER) and received the Outstanding Achievement in Biobanking Award from ISBER. She is a fellow of ASME and AIMBE and a National Blood Foundation Scholar.
